There are days with cloudless blue skies

When merely the warmth of the sun on my shoulders is enough

Enough to make me smile

And in that moment, I am happy

There are times when I am with friends

And our mingled laughter rings out

Echoing across the lake

Startling the heron, perched precariously on the dock edge

And in that moment, I am happy

There are times when I’m wrapped in the arms of someone I love

Pressing my ear tightly to their chest

Listening for mingled heartbeats

And in that moment, I am happy

But, sometimes I get sad without you.
